My journey with fitness began in 1994 in a humble basement in Queens, where I took my first yoga class out of curiosity. Since then, I've dedicated myself wholeheartedly to the practice and other modes of fitness and well-being. Over the years, my training has encompassed various disciplines including anatomy, alignment, assists, philosophy, restorative yoga, teaching skills, meditation, and essential oils.
Through extensive practice and teaching, I've gained profound insights into the body and its tendency to form detrimental habits. I've observed how many of us unconsciously hold tension, such as clenching our jaws and holding our breath, which deprives us of oxygen and leads to issues like elevated shoulders even during yoga sessions. Common tightness in areas like the back, hamstrings, and hips often results in discomfort and pain.
Personal experience with injuries has taught me the importance of releasing tension and prioritizing breath in my own practice, habits I now integrate into my teaching. Seeking new ways to nurture my body led me to explore Pilates, particularly the transformative Tower Class, which captivated me with its focus on core strength and mental challenge. Embracing Pilates Mat certification further highlighted how seamlessly yoga and Pilates complement each other, blending strength and flexibility, resistance and release, and a balanced approach to breathing.
By practicing both disciplines, I've deepened my connection with my body and learned to transform habits that no longer serve me. I emphasize cultivating healthy movement patterns, such as relaxing the jaw and initiating movement from the core, empowering students to embrace their body's resilience and strength.
My passion lies in sharing these transformative practices as potent forms of self-care for body, mind, and soul. I'm driven by the belief that mindful movement is medicine, offering a path to discovering and shedding old notions of limitation. I invite you to join me on this journey of exploration and growth, where movement becomes not just a remedy, but a profound expression of our potential.
